Welcome to Raya Development's new website
In response to the devastating impact of the war on Tigray—marked by displacement, trauma, and destruction—the people of Zalambessa, especially female-led households, continue to suffer while sheltering in Adigrat. Recognizing this urgent need, RDF (Raya Development Foundation) in Canada, in collaboration with the Global Alliance of Tegaru Evangelical Christian Canada and Eritrean Diaspora from Akele-Guzay Aret Woreda, mobilized humanitarian support. Their contributions, totaling 401,000 birr in the second phase, aimed to provide direct cash assistance to 125 internally displaced families, prioritizing those with children and no means of sustenance.
To ensure transparency and fairness, a committee was formed under the guidance of the Adigrat City Mayor, Mr. Birhane Berhe. This team oversaw beneficiary screening, bank account setup, and coordination with RDF. The cash distribution ceremony included speeches of gratitude, formal acknowledgments, and media coverage by DW International. Each household received 3,000 birr, and the process was documented through signed payrolls and interviews with beneficiaries, highlighting the impact of this support on their daily lives.
The financial breakdown shows 375,000 birr distributed directly to beneficiaries, with the remaining 26,000 birr allocated for coordination, media, and contingency. A balance of 2,000 birr remains in the joint account for future emergency use. The report reflects a deeply collaborative effort rooted in compassion, accountability, and solidarity with the displaced people of Zalambessa. All documentation has been scanned and achieved.
