In response, RDF Canada swiftly mobilized emergency aid to reach 100 individuals identified as most vulnerable. This life-saving effort was led by Mr. Kahsay Mesele—journalist and RDF Canada intermediary based in Mekelle—and implemented in accordance with the Memorandum of Understanding signed on December 21, 2023.
Each recipient received a tailored package of essential food items:
50 kg of corn
5 liters of cooking oil
2,000 Birr in cash for supplemental food needs
This aid was designed to provide immediate relief while allowing families flexibility to meet specific dietary and household needs.
In January 2024, RDF Canada took swift action following urgent reports from local administrators in Ofla district, Tigray, Ethiopia. Families across three villages were facing acute food shortages, with some cases tragically resulting in loss of life. In coordination with trusted local partners, RDF Canada mobilized emergency aid to reach those most at risk.
A total of 700,000 Ethiopian Birr was allocated for this distribution, excluding transportation and logistical costs. Mr. Kahsay Mesele formally agreed to monitor and execute the distribution in alignment with RDF Canada’s humanitarian standards and community accountability protocols.
Our Commitment
This emergency response reflects RDF Canada’s ongoing commitment to community-led development, transparent aid delivery, and culturally grounded humanitarian action. We remain deeply grateful to our local partners and donors whose support makes this work possible.
At RDF Canada, we believe that emergency aid is not just about meeting immediate needs—it’s about laying the foundation for long-term resilience. Every intervention we make is a step toward empowering communities to achieve lasting self-reliance.
