Prepared by: Raya Development Foundation (RDF) Reporting Period: June – September 2022 Project Status: Successfully Completed
Background
Due to the ongoing conflict between the federal government of Ethiopia and the regional government of Tigray, civilians in the region have faced severe humanitarian challenges. Economic blockades and service blackouts have led to widespread poverty, with many families unable to meet basic nutritional needs. RDF identified three of the most affected towns—Enda Aba Tsahma (Edaga-Arbi), Emba Seneyti (Nebelet), and Bora-Selawa—and launched a targeted emergency food relief initiative to support women with children suffering from acute food shortages.
Project Objectives
Alleviate hunger and malnutrition among vulnerable women and children
Provide equitable distribution of grains, flour, and children's food
Ensure transparency and accountability through local partnerships and documentation
Outcomes Achieved
Essential support has reached over 2,000 families across three towns, as well as the frontline medical staff at Ayder Hospital—bringing relief and hope to those who need it most.
Significant reduction in reported cases of child malnutrition in those areas
Strengthened collaboration between humanitarian actors and local governance
Transparent and equitable distribution confirmed by third-party witnesses
Impacted Areas
Edaga-Arbi
Nebelet
Bora-Selewa
Conclusion
Raya Development Foundation’s emergency food relief initiative in Tigray was successfully implemented and completed within the planned timeline and budget. The project provided life-saving support to vulnerable women and children during a time of extreme hardship. The collaboration between the intermediary and local government administrators ensured fairness, transparency, and community trust.
RDF remains committed to supporting humanitarian efforts in conflict-affected regions and will continue to monitor developments in Tigray for future engagement.
